Automation Engineer — Leeds

Reporting into the Electrical Engineering Manager, we are seeking an experience Automation Engineer / Programmer, to join our Components manufacturing site based in Beeston, Leeds.

Core Hours: Flexible hours between 7am – 4.30pm, Monday — Friday

Using natural products sourced locally, the steel to create our amazing springs starts at British Steel, the same steel that is used to create our incredible springs has been used to create airports, train stations and even the Sydney harbour bridge.

The Automation Engineer / Programmer performs the commissioning and integration of products by debugging, troubleshooting, and resolving complex production issues across the Components side of the business.

The Automation Engineer / Programmer will be responsible for delivering high quality Requirements, integration, interface management and verification & Validation services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with technical modifications to current machinery
  • Provide breakdown assistance as required
  • Work closely with and assist team of electrical engineers in projects and day to day duties
  • Maintain and share accurate records with other departments
  • Support business objectives to increase productivity, reduce waste, improve quality and enhance safety

Skills & Experience required:

  • Degree in electrical and electronic engineering or similar
  • Experienced engineer working in a similar industry
  • Strong communicator with the ability to convey complex issues in simple terms to all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to work alone as well as part of the team
  • Good communication skills
  • Enthusiastic and flexible approach
  • Ability to work independently

· Have knowledge and experience of:-

  • PLC and HMI hardware and software (various types and versions),
  • variable speed drives,
  • electrical control and systems including safe control theory (machine directives)
  • communications (subnetting VLANS etc) and programming (server side Node.js,
  • Java script
  • python
  • Linux server specifically Ubuntu server etc.
  • IioT programming, gateways, MQTT protocol over ethernet,
  • IEC61131-3data structure conversion and understand the industry 3.0 & 4.0 automation stack
